Luna, Apayao – This July 14, over one hundred thirty-eight solo parents across the municipality received food packs from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) -a special program that aimed to provide aid to diverse sectors in communities to ease their burden.
For Luna town, solo parents were chosen as the beneficiaries for the food packs, which contained 5kilos of well-milled rice and some canned goods. Cagayan Valley SO Assistant lead Wilhelmina C. Quilang, along with Mayor Januario S. Garde, led the distribution activity.
Quilang shared to the recipients how the program reached Luna.
“Actually, Cordillera was not part of our Area of Responsibility (AOR) back then because we were supposed to cater only to the whole of Cagayan Valley. Originally, we just serve Provincial offices like DTI, DENR, DepEd, and Capitol. But it started when somebody from Kalinga coordinated with us. After we have catered Kalinga, they requested us to include Kabugao. From there, most of the municipalities in Apayao have been given aid. So, now only Calanasan and Luna are left unserved. We are doing this as part of public service under the OVP,” she expressed.
Mayor Garde, during his welcome message, emphasized to the audience the essence of partnership with various agencies to have access to essential aid. ‘We need to help each other, tulong tulong tayo, we will work hand in hand, para mas uunlad pa ang ating lugar na Luna, ” he said.
The Mayor likewise underlined that the provision of said program greatly helps the underprivileged, primarily the solo parents group.
The LCE thanked the OVP for extending the aid to the residents, recognizing that the coming of said personnel to personally deliver the items entails sacrifice.
